API Access to OMIM:

The OMIM API is a REST-based API against which requests can be made over HTTP. The OMIM website is built on this API so any data and functionality available in the website is also available from the API. The data are updated nightly, and the response can be formatted in XML, JSON, Python, or Ruby.

An API key is required to access the OMIM API, a unique one will be generated upon registration and must be included with every request. The API key will be automatically deactivated after 12 months, at which time you will need to re-register to get a new one. You will be emailed a month before the API key is inactivated to give you time to re-register.

Johns Hopkins University holds the copyright to OMIM including the collective data therein and provides access to these data files to nonprofit entities. Requests for information regarding a license for commercial use of the OMIM database may be sent via e-mail to JHTT-Communications@jhmi.edu.

I hereby declare that I will not use or share the data contained in OMIM for any commercial purposes and agree not to distribute the data to a third party. Furthermore, I will not develop a derivative database without first obtaining from Johns Hopkins University a license to do so. I included a brief description of how I will use OMIM in my API request (below). If OMIM data are used in research, I will notify OMIM.org and send a copy of the reference.

Note: OMIM contains data for research and educational use only. Users seeking information about a personal medical or genetic condition are urged to consult with a qualified physician for diagnosis and for answers to personal questions.

(All fields are required. Please ensure the email address is correct because the API access instructions will be emailed to you.)
